The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, or a related field, with a strong preference for those familiar with dental or medical terminology. Technical proficiency and fluency in English are paramount. The candidate must be adept in managing manuscript submission systems, adherence to the jour guideliens and plagiarism detection using software. A successful assistant should demonstrate a 'hawk-eye' for detail regarding the journals referencing style and ICMJE guidelines, as well as the professional communication skills necessary to act as a liaison between international authors, peer reviewers, and the Editor-in-Chief.

The Editorial Assistant is responsible for the administrative lifecycle of a manuscript, ensuring it meets the rigorous standards required for maintenance in databases like PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science and Scopus. Key duties include performing initial technical triage on submissions to verify ethical approvals and blinded formatting, as well as managing the peer-review workflow to improve and maintain the journal’s 'Time to First Decision' metrics. Additionally, the role involves weekly perfromance reporting, correspindenxes to emails and preparing accepted papers for production by verifying high-resolution clinical imagery (e.g., radiographs or histology) and ensuring all metadata is accurately formatted for digital indexing and DOI assignment, following up on indexing process, documenting the details of the journal performance, reviewer performance and editor performance and preparation of monthly reports. They will closely follow the acceptance to publication process, accuracy of copy editing and following up with the production editor for improving the metrics from acceptance to ahead of print publication/Issue release
